Gvardiol discusses Chelsea transfer speculation

Josko Gvardiol has discussed a potential future move to Chelsea, but insists he remains happy at RB Leipzig.

Gvardiol has emerged as one of the most highly-rated defenders in European football at Leipzig and was subject of interest from Chelsea during last summer’s transfer window.

The west Londoners held talks with Leipzig over a deal for the Croatian centre-back in the final weeks of the summer window, but negotiations failed to find an agreement.

Gvardiol has impressed during Croatia’s World Cup campaign and produced an excellent performance as the 2018 runners-up reached the knockout rounds on Thursday with a goalless draw against Belgium.

The 20-year-old has discussed the speculation linking him with Stamford Bridge and refused to rule out a future move to the Premier League.

“About me and Chelsea? I don’t know,” he told The Athletic. “You know what happened in the last few months. To be honest, I have no idea.

“My agent is taking care of this and we will see.

“Right now, I’m happy in Leipzig. I don’t know, we will see – you never know. You know the stories and these things, but all I can say is that I’m happy in Leipzig and right now I’m going to stay there and perform for them.”
