After two season’s of fine form for Man City, Raheem Sterling got the 2019/20 Premier League campaign underway with a hat-trick.
Having played through the middle and scored the opening goal in last weeks Community Shield win over Liverpool, the England international had his shooting boots on again, netting three second-half goals against West Ham to send Man City straight to the top of the table.
Despite starting on the left of a front three at the London Stadium, Pep Guardiola thinks that a role through the middle could be an ‘incredible position’ for Sterling, hailing his ‘special quality’.
“Since we started this season in China and the Community Shield he has scored one goal minimum every game,” Guardiola said in his post-match press conference.
“In the first day he played striker and for me striker will be an incredible position for him. He can play in three positions up front.
“They are incredibly talented players but they need the group, they need the team. When the team takes a step forward he plays better.
“But I know the special quality of the player, the consistent physicality and the finishing.”
