Guardiola says under fire Arteta needs ‘time’ to ‘build’ at Arsenal

Pep Guardiola says Mikel Arteta needs ‘time’ to ‘build’ at Arsenal as the pressure continues to increase on the under-fire Gunners boss.

Manchester City welcome Arsenal to the Etihad in Saturday’s lunchtime fixture, in a clash that pits Guardiola against former assistant Arteta.

The latter arrives into the clash under huge pressure following successive defeats to open the season, with the north Londoners yet to score in losses to Brentford and Chelsea.

Arsenal have spent more money than any other Premier League club during the summer transfer window so far and Guardiola has called for patience with Arteta, insisting his compatriot must be given ‘time’ to rebuild at the Emirates.

“Two games – they have played two games, not 20 or 50 fixtures,” Guardiola told his pre-match press conference.

“Sometimes I think we managers are crazy to do the job.

“They trust Mikel because they spent money to reinforce the team. Why don’t you give more time to the teams to build what they want to build? You need time.”
