Pep Guardiola has congratulated Liverpool after they beat his Manchester City side 5-1 on aggregate to progress to the Champions League semi-finals.
The five time European champions were second favourites to progress to the next round when the quarter final draw was made, and they were drawn against Premier League leaders Manchester City.
However, an emphatic 3-0 victory in the put them firmly in control of the tie, and they backed it up with a 2-1 victory at the Etihad to condemn City to their third defeat in just six days.
Speaking after the game, City boss Pep Guardiola took the time to congratulate Jurgen Klopp and his team, saying they deserve their place in the last four.
“I want to say big congratulations to Liverpool for going through and I hope they can defend English football in the semi-finals.
“They are a top team and a top manager. They deserve to be in the semi-final.”
The two games were not without controversy however, with Guardiola being left furious at the referee for disallowing a Leroy Sane goal, while even Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard to say Liverpool got lucky.
