Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has denied that his agent has been in England to discuss a new deal.
Guardiola, who has led City to an emphatic 16 point lead at the top of the Premier League, has just over one more year remaining on his current deal. When he initially took over at the Etihad in 2016, he said the only wanted to stay in England for a few seasons, much like he had done at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
However, speaking earlier this week, the Catalan manager revealed that he could stay with the champions elect for 10 years, much to the dismay of rival fans.
Recent reports in Spain claimed Guardiola’s agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, had flown to Manchester to complete the negotiations, but speaking in his pre-match press conference, the City boss denied that this was the case:
“Sometimes a journalist receives bad information. My agent is not in town,” Guardiola told the media.
“Was not, is not, and will not be in town in the next weeks.”
Asked whether he would like to continue with the project at Manchester City, he replied:
“You have to speak with the journalist about if my agent is here or not, they know this information, the journalist has more information than me.”
