Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been named as ‘possible destinations’ for Antoine Griezmann, as Barcelona look to balance their books by selling a number of players.
The French international only made the switch to the Nou Camp from Atletico Madrid on a multi-million-pound deal back in 2019, yet it would appear he is now surplus to requirements after a turbulent spell at the club.
The 30-year-old has scored 35 goals in all competitions across the last two seasons, including 20 last term, yet he has been at the centre of criticism throughout his time with La Blaugrana and has struggled to really warrant his €120 million price tag.
With the Catalan giants currently in the midst of dire financial woes, the club have been forced to try and sell or move on a number of their first-team stars, in order to pave the way for a new deal for talisman Lionel Messi, as well as to register the signing of the likes of Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia – all of whom arrived on free transfers.
As per Sport, the La Liga side are open to the sale of Griezmann in order to balance their books, with the Premier League trio of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all said to be ‘possible destinations’.
The former Real Sociedad’s potential departure would be just the latest in Barcelona’s fire sale, the club having already sold Junior Firpo to Leeds United, while they’ve also allowed Portuguese starlet Francisco Trincao to join Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan with an option to buy.
The report suggests that while both Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic may be allowed to leave for nothing in order to reduce the wage bill, the club are hoping to generate some much-needed funds with the sale of Griezmann, who still has three years remaining on his current contract.
The player has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford and the Red Devils are again claimed to be a potential destination with the club still perhaps in need of a top-class centre-forward. However, having agreed a £73m deal for Jadon Sancho while there is interest in Raphael Varane and Eduardo Camavinga, it remains to be seen what financial clout they would have for a move for Griezmann
As for Chelsea, the Champions League winners seemingly have their eyes set on Borussia Dortmund man Erling Haaland, though with Dortmund determined to keep hold of the striker, Griezmann could prove to be an alternative.
At Manchester City, the champions have been heavily linked with a move for England captain Harry Kane, although should that deal proved too difficult to complete, Pep Guardiola’s side may turn instead to Griezmann, as they look for a replacement for Barcelona-bound Aguero.
Elsewhere, a return to Atletico has been mooted, potentially as part of a swap deal for Joao Felix, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been named as a possible suitor, should compatriot Kylian Mbappe leave this summer.
