Gomez not phased by Liverpool’s ‘relentless’ fixture list

Joe Gomez says Liverpool’s ‘relentless’ fixture list is ‘part and parcel’ of being at the top.

Liverpool head to Southampton this weekend in what will be their fourth fixture of the month, following their Community Shield defeat to Manchester City, Premier League opener with Norwich and Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will also host Arsenal and visit Burnley before the end of the month, whilst their fixture pile-up will continue in December with their participation in the Club World Cup.

The European champions also played 120 minutes in midweek after lifting the trophy via penalty shoot-out success, but Gomez says the punishing schedule is part of competing for the game’s biggest honours.

“It is relentless but it is part and parcel to be at the top,” Gomez said, as per the Telegraph.

“You have to play more games than anyone else and if you want to get prime position you have to play more games. We want to do it and we want to work together, do our best for the team, recover, go again.”
