Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs believes that winning the FA Cup and finishing second in the Premier League will be a sign that his former club are heading back towards the top of English football.
Jose Mourinho’s side need just one more point from their remaining two league fixtures to guarantee a second place finished, which will be the club’s best finish to a season since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in 2013.
Giggs, who is the Red Devils all time leading appearance maker and won an astonishing 13 Premier League titles, reckons that if United go on to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on May 19, it will be clear signal that they are headed in the right direction again.
“It’s a huge game for United, to finish second and win the FA Cup is a successful season,” Giggs told the Press Association.
“If they do that we’ll definitely be getting there, back to the top.
“As a United fan you want to compete for the league and compete in Europe as well, but winning the FA Cup and coming second, you can build on that and we all hope they can compete for the Premier League next year.
“They were quite successful last year, winning two trophies, but coming second is definitely progress.”
