Steven Gerrard says it is ‘unlikely’ Rangers will make Ryan Kent’s loan at the club a permanent switch.
The 22-year-old has shone since arriving on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool last summer, scoring six goals and assisting six more in his 23 league appearances.
Gerrard says he would like to bring Kent to Ibrox on a permanent basis and ‘build a team around’ him, but admits the finances involved may prove to be a stumbling block.
“I think it would unlikely be a permanent move,” said Gerrard to the Scottish Sun.
“The numbers [that are] being spoken about, I’m out!
“I would be more confident about getting him back on a loan. If Liverpool wanted to sell him, that’s out of my hands. We’ll have to wait and see.
“We have to make sure we have an offer for Ryan.
“Our supporters need to know I’m doing everything I can to make sure he is here next year. He is definitely one of the people I want to build the team around.”
