Steven Gerrard has repeatedly spoken of his eagerness to get to work in his new role as Rangers manager and the former Liverpool and England captain was delighted to take charge of his first training session in charge of the Glasgow giants yesterday.
Although this is the 38-year-old’s first managerial appointment, he has revealed that he will expect the same type of high standard he set as a player from members of his Rangers squad.
“There’s been more than one message”, said Gerrard.
“It’s great to meet them. I was really excited coming in this morning. They need to get used to me and I need to get used to them and that’s going to take time.
“I only know high standards so that’s what I’m going to demand. This club only knows high standards. We’ll demand that as a staff and we’ll expect the players to come to the party.”
Gerrard certainly hasn’t been lounging in the sun over the last few weeks, with Rangers having already signed six players as they look to close to gap between themselves and Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic, who have dominated Scottish Football over the last couple of seasons.
With the Glasgow club’s news boss also revealing that there still might be plenty of comings and goings at Ibrox between now and the start of the SPL season.
“It’s difficult to gauge where we are. There’s still going to be people that are added. There’ll be people that move on.
“We want leaders all over the pitch. We want leadership throughout the staff. A club this size needs leaders all over the place.”
