Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was full of admiration for his side’s 2-0 victory over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

Two late goals from Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos helped Rangers to their third league win in four League games, staying in touch with city rivals Celtic and leaders Hearts.

“We asked the players to step up and take responsibility and they’ve done that,” he told the press after the game.’’ Gerrard told BBC Sport.

The victory was welcomed greatly by the manager, who saw his side knocked out in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup last weekend.

“They never give up and even though we’ve had a frustrating week it’s not been through lack of trying – we just haven’t had that run of the ball or the quality to break sides down.

“We’ve got a good group of lads, who understand the week we’ve had and we’re all on board in trying to put that right and they’ve done that I thought they were terrific, especially second half.”
