Steven Gerrard has backed Liverpool ‘to edge’ the Champions League final when they meet Tottenham tomorrow.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will play in their second successive final when they face Spurs in Madrid this weekend, looking to go one better after last season’s showpiece defeat to Real Madrid.
Gerrard, who won the trophy with the club in 2005, has hailed the achievement of his former side to reach consecutive finals and has tipped them to win the sixth European Cup in the club’s history.
“Two finals in two years. It’s an incredible achievement,” Gerrard told liverpoolfc.com.
“Those people trying to put Jürgen down, I think all you’ve got to say is, before Jürgen came in they hadn’t been to a European final since 2007.
“Now, he’s put this team alongside the top teams in the world. The Madrids, the Barcelonas — you see him beat Barcelona 4-0.
“It’s a tight game to call, but if both teams play to their absolute maximum, I think Liverpool will just edge it.”
