Galatasaray are hopeful that the signing of Leroy Sane can persuade Victor Osimhen to return to the club on a permanent basis.

The Turkish Süper Lig champions have secured the signing of Sane on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, with the deal considered a coup given rival interest from top clubs and Bayern’s own proposal to keep the player.

Galatasaray are hopeful that statement of intent can persuade Osimhen to return to Istanbul.

The Nigeria international spent last season on loan at Galatasaray and scored 37 goals in 41 games. His performances helped the club to a league and cup double, while setting a new record for goals in a season by an overseas player. His return broke the previous record of 34 held by former Galatasaray striker Mario Jardel.

Osimhen has turned down a transfer to the Saudi Pro League, following an approach from Al-Hilal ahead of the Club World Cup, and wants to remain in Europe as he assesses his options. Galatasaray have submitted a record-breaking offer to the 26-year-old but face competition from at least one European rival.

Concrete enquiry or Victor Osimhen from ‘top European club’

Sky Germany have claimed that there have been ‘concrete enquiries’ from ‘another top European club’, with Chelsea, PSG, Juventus and Manchester United among those linked with a move.

A deal for Osimhen would shatter the Turkish Süper Lig transfer record but Galatasaray are hopeful of reaching an agreement with Napoli. Okan Buruk’s side want to meet Osimhen’s €75m release clause in a series of instalments.
