France star Griezmann admits ‘suprise’ at how Pogba became a leader in Russia

France World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann has admitted that he is surprised that Paul Pogba has developed into a leader within the Les Blues squad.

Manchester United midfielder Pogba put in a series of mature performances earlier this summer in Russia and his rousing team speech before his sides 4-2 World Cup final victory over Croatia has received millions upon millions of views.

However, Griezmann also revealed that while he is impressed by Pogba’s leadership qualities he does sometimes find it hard to take his fun-loving teammate seriously.

“Paul has really moved up a notch in the dressing room. He had the right words, which has pushed us,” he told a press conference.

“Hugo (Lloris), Raph (Varane) and Blaise (Matuidi), we knew that they were there, but Paul, yes, we became more surprised and the way he spoke, it did us good.

“Every time he speaks, I want to laugh. Paul is so used to the funny, which is why it surprises me.

“It is for this reason that when he speaks, Paul never looked at me. He knows that I would have a small smile, due to which he can laugh at any time.”
