A former Tottenham Hotspur star could be on his way back to England to play in the Championship after falling out of favour with his current La Liga club.

Former Dutch international Raphael van der Vaart is attracting the attentions of Championship club Reading after being unwanted by his current club Real Betis.

The 33-year old who has one year remaining on his contract at Real Betis said:

Everyone knows they don’t want me.

I have a trainer in Amsterdam and am training hard every day. There is contact with other clubs, but nothing concrete.

One of those clubs is Reading, who are now managed by Van der Vaarts former Netherlands teammate and Manchester United legend Jaap Stam.

Van der Vaart scored 23 goals in 63 games for Tottenham, as well as 109 caps for his country.
