John Aldridge believes Liverpool need to sign two world class playersย this summer to turn Jurgen Klopp’s side into title winners.
Liverpool finished as runners-up to champions Manchester City by just a single point, despite losing just one game all season and earning a record haul of 97 points.
Former Anfield favourite Aldridge believes the current side are as good as any in the club’s history, and can take the next step to silverware with a couple of high quality additions this summer.
โLooking forward to next season you’d like to think that the owners are going to back Jurgen again this summer to bring in at least another two world-class players along with young ones who are going to progress,โ he wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.
โProspective signings are all going to be thinking โWhat about that stadium, what about those fans, what about that manager โ I’d love to play for that club.โ
โLiverpool is a very saleable product now โ all the best players in the world will want to come to the likes of us; Barcelona; Real Madrid; possibly Juventus or if you want a lot of money and to play for Pep Guardiola, Manchester City.
โI think Chelsea and Arsenal might struggle now to attract the real top players. Manchester United might be okay with the size of the club but if you’re a player you’d think ‘no, Liverpool are the ones I’ll choose.’
โThis team are right up there with Liverpool’s all-time great sides. We just need that trophy and they’ll be there where they belong.
โWatching this team this year it’s as good as any other team I’ve watched including the one I was fortunate enough to play in.โ
