Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has said that Manchester United ‘lacked imagination’ as they failed to break down the league’s bottom club West Bromwich Albion.
United knew they had to get a win to prevent Manchester City winning the title for the second time in two weeks, but suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to the relegation strugglers.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Keown praised West Brom’s gritty performance, while also saying that the second placed side didn’t have the imagination to find a way through the packed Baggies defence:
“Manchester United lacked imagination, they couldn’t find a way through,” said Keown.
“In the end, they went safe, they went wide, and that was just playing into their (West Brom’s) hands because they are nice and strong.”
Keown wasn’t the only former Premier League centre back to slate Jose Mourinho’s side, with ex Man Utd captain Nemanja Vidic also expressing his dissatisfaction at his former sides performance.
The result at Old Trafford confirmed what we have known since December, that City are now the champions of England for a fifth time in their history.
