Rio Ferdinand has defended Aaron Wan-Bissaka following the defender’s mistake in Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
The full-back was at fault for the only goal of the game at the Vitality Stadium, being sucked into a central position before allowing Josh King to flick the ball over him and fire home on the stroke of half-time.
Despite seeing the 21-year-old at fault for United’s fourth Premier League defeat of the season, Ferdinand has defended Wan-Bissaka and says the youngster will learn from his mistake as he continues to develop his game.
‘We could sit here and dissect Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s game and there is some great stuff about his game,’ Ferdinand told BT Sport.
‘The recovery tackles he is making, he is making more tackles than anyone in the league, and when he is in a foot race I would back him against anybody.
‘But there are elements of his game he has to learn such as patience, timing and positioning at times, but that will come and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bought him knowing all that.
‘This isn’t the time to sit here and criticise him. That is just one instance in the game that he got it wrong. I could sit here and get a 34-year-old that would make the same mistake.’
