Mohamed Salah continued his devastating run of form this season by putting in yet another match winning performance last night as Liverpool ran out 5-2 winners against his former side Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield.
The Egyptian international scored two superbly taken goals to take his tally for the season to a sensational 43 before laying on two perfectly weighted assists for team-mates Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Speaking on the BT Sport after the game former Man United defender Ferdinand said:
“I’ve run out of words to describe the way this guy is performing this year,”
“Did we expect it at the beginning of the season? No. But he’s shown here that you can go away, work at your game and you can come back and go beyond what anyone would imagine.
“His finishing tonight, he’s got to be regarded as, in form wise, one of if not the best player on the planet at the moment with the way he’s doing things.
“There isn’t anyone on the pitch when he plays he feels can stop him, nobody can seem to contain him.
“He gets into positions where defenders are not able to cope with him. He’s been a tremendous asset to this Liverpool team.”
It was then Liverpool legend Gerrard’s turn to pay tribute Salah and the former Reds captain said:
“He’s in the form of his life,”
“It’s difficult to compare him to the likes of your Ronaldos and Messis because they’ve done it for so long and have been consistent year in, year out.
“But, without a shadow of a doubt, he’s the best player on the planet right now.”
