Everton have triggered the release clause of Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
The Toffees have actived a £7.1million release clause in the contract of the Senegalese midfielders contract at Villa Park, and the player is expected to completed a move to Goodison Park in the coming days.
Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo confirmed the move:
It is public knowledge that Everton have triggered the clause in his contract, so he is going to leave.
There’s not much you can do because he has a release clause – that’s something I inherited so my hands are tied. We’ll be losing him.
Once personal terms are agreed and he passes the medical, he is going to go and there’s nothing I can do about it.
Aston Villa are preparing for life outside of the Premier League for the first time following their relegation to the Championship last season. They begin their Championship campaign against Sheffield Wednesday in just one week.
