Ethan Nwaneri is set to leave Arsenal before the end of the summer transfer window.

Nwaneri has not been included in the Arsenal squad for the Community Shield clash with Manchester City this afternoon, amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, where he scored twice in 11 appearances. However, only three of his Ligue 1 appearances came from the start.

The midfielder is keen to play regular first-team football after a frustrating period and Fabrizio Romano has reported that an exit from Arsenal is likely in the coming weeks.

Earlier this week, Mikel Arteta suggested a move for Nwaneri is possible, admitting the teenager needs to be playing football.

“I want him to be at the club but something is in the medium and long-term, what is the best for the player as well,” Arteta said.

“Ethan needs to play football. If he stays here, it’s because we can guarantee that he can have those minutes. Otherwise, it’s just something that is not good for anybody, I think.

“We have certain possibilities that we can explore if the right possibilities come across.

“So far, with the numbers that we have, we are happy, but obviously we need to accept that there are certain players that probably have to move.”

Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are also excluded from the Arsenal squad today amid potential transfers.
