Erling Haaland is reportedly ‘interested’ in signing for Chelsea, either this summer or next.
Chelsea are understood to be considering making a move for the Borussia Dortmund forward during the summer transfer window, despite the Bundesliga side’s stance that Haaland is not for sale.
The Norway international possesses a release clause in his contract of €75m, though this will only become active in 2022 with a host of Europe’s leading clubs monitoring the 20-year-old ahead of a potential move.
Chelsea are now keen to move ahead of the competition as Thomas Tuchel looks to reinforce his attacking options, with the west Londoners exploring the possibility of signing Haaland this summer – or agreeing a deal that will see the star move to Stamford Bridge next year.
According to the Telegraph, Haaland is open to the possibility of moving to the European champions as he weighs up his next career move, having cemented his status as one of world football’s finest talents since moving to Germany.
Haaland scored 41 goals in just 41 appearances across all competitions in 2020/21, finishing as the Champions League’s leading scorer and being named as the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season.
Chelsea have a strong working relationship with Dortmund and are hopeful of coming to an agreement, with the Blues amongst a select few clubs – alongside Manchester City and Manchester United – capable of affording Haaland this summer.
Should the Norwegian remain with Dortmund for a further year, the competition will increase with Barcelona and Real Madrid potential suitors in 2022.
Chelsea have also been linked with both Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, though Manchester City appear frontrunners for the former, whilst Lukaku insisted last week that his intention is to remain with Inter Milan.
Chelsea will now assess whether it would be possible to sign Haaland this summer and have reportedly contacted Dortmund to see whether the German side would consider the out-of-favour Tammy Abraham in part-exchange.
