Unai Emery has revealed how Arsenal will prepare for this month’s Europa League final.
Arsenal finished their Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win at Burnley on Sunday, and will now have a 17 day break before meeting Chelsea in Baku later this month.
Having finished fifth in the Premier League, a win for Arsenal will not only deliver a first European trophy since 1994, it will also signal the return to Champions League football to the Emirates.
Emery says Arsenal will use the extended period and prepare as if it were an international break, before travelling to Azerbaijan ‘three or four days’ before the final on May 29.
“We prepare like when it’s an international break,” he said in his post-match press conference.
“We will have two days off and for the first week we will not be thinking about the final. We will train three days in London and then next weekend we will have it off and then we will start on Tuesday in London with three days training preparing with all of our focus on the final.
“We will go to Baku three or four days before the final, Saturday I think, and prepare for the match over the last three training sessions.
“It’s the same as when we have an international break.”
