Emery reckons Arsenal have closed the gap to other top six clubs this season

Unai Emery believes Arsenal have closed the gap to the other top six clubs this season.

Emery’s side finished the Premier League season with a 3-1 win at Burnley on the final day, with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang’s double and youngster Eddie Nketiah’s first-ever top flight goal securing three points at Turf Moor.

Having finished a huge 12 points outside the Champions League places last season, Arsenal missed out on a top-four finish by just a single point this campaign.

Emery’s side could still qualify for Europe’s premier competition, should they beat London rivals Chelsea in the final of the Europa League on May 29.

Emery says he is ‘proud’ of his players with the club having shown progress, and hopes to finish the season with a trophy later this month.

“I am proud of the players, we deserve to be fighting for the top four, at the last moment we didn’t take it, but we are closer to the other teams.

“Our first target in the league we can not take, but we have the Europa League to play for one title and this [Champions League] target.”
