Swansea City have completed the £5million signing of Alfie Mawson from Championship club Barnsley.
The deal will see Mawson as the latest player to move from Non-League football, through the ranks, to the dizzy heights of the Premier League following in the footsteps of England internationals Jamie Vardy and Michail Antonio.
Mawsons path has seen him move from Maidenhead United where he played just three years ago, to Swansea City, via Brentford and Barnsley, where he helped the latter to league and cup success last season, winning the EFL trophy and promotion from League 1 via the playoffs.
He also attracted the attentions of Sunderland, who had offered around £3million for the 22-year old, but were beaten in the race to his signature by Swansea who agreed a £5million fee with the Championship club.
He will be looking to take the place of Ashley Williams who left Swansea City earlier this summer, joining Everton in a £12million deal.
