PSG expected to step up De Gea pursuit after Buffon announcement

Paris Saint-Germain are expected to step up their pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea after announcing Gianluigi Buffon will leave the club this summer.

The Ligue 1 champions have been strongly linked with a move for De Gea as a replacement for veteran goalkeeper Buffon, who will leave the club next month after just one season in the French capital.

De Gea is entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, having so far failed to agree terms on a new deal.

United would be unlikely to part with the Spanish international easily, however according to the Mirror a significant fee could tempt them to sell De Gea rather than run the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer.

The lure of Champions League football may also be enough to persuade De Gea to leave after eight years in Manchester, with United having failed to secure a top four finish in the Premier League last season.
