Thibaut Courtois has told Romelu Lukaku that he has no secrets as the duo prepare to go face to face in this weekend’s FA Cup final.
Manchester United and Chelsea go into the Wembley finale knowing that the game presents their only chance of silverware this season after their 2nd and 5th placed finishes in the Premier League, as well as their disappointing performances in the Champions League.
The Chelsea ‘keeper and United striker are of course no strangers to each other, playing against each other for a number of years in the Premier League, as well as with each other on international duty with Belgium.
The two will of course be playing alongside each other at this summer’s World Cup in Russia, where they have been drawn in England’s group. Before that though, they must go head-to-head one final time as opponents, with Courtois sending a strong message to his international teammate:
“Romelu has no more secrets for me, everyone knows him,” said the Chelsea ‘keeper.
“He is powerful, fast, has a good shot, is good with the head and I know his qualities and faults — to know where he is going to shoot. He is important for Manchester so hopefully we can keep him out of the match.”
Ironically, despite the pre-match talk, neither of the Belgian duo could be in the game. Courtois has been left out of all the Blues FA Cup ties this summer in favour of backup ‘keeper Willy Caballero, who has declared he wants to start the game on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile Romelu Lukaku is a doubt after suffering an ankle injury in the recent league game against Arsenal, although he has travelled to London with the squad and should be involved in some capacity.
