Jorginho has discussed his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or following Italy’s success at Euro 2020.
The midfielder has been discussed as a potential candidate to win football’s most prestigious individual accolade, having enjoyed a dream season to become just the tenth player to win the Champions League and European Championship in the same year.
Jorginho was an influential figure as Chelsea were crowned as champions of Europe last season, before being named in the Team of the Tournament during Italy’s triumphant run at Euro 2020.
The 29-year-old admits winning the Ballon d’Or would represent a dream come true, though says he cannot be compared to some of the world’s finest footballers based on talent alone.
However, the midfielder admitted he could have a chance dependent on the criteria for this season’s award having won two of football’s biggest prizes during 2021.
“We all have dreams,” Jorginho said, as per Marca. “But I’ll be honest, it depends on the criteria a decision is made based on.
“If we’re talking about talent then I know I’m not the best in the world. But if it’s going on titles, then nobody has won more than I have this season.
“How could I compare myself to Messi, Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo? They’ve completely different characteristics to me. But, I repeat, it depends on the criteria.”
