Chelsea star responds to criticism from former Man United boss

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was heavily criticised recently for his performance in his sides 3-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

The Belgium international allowed a fairly tame near post shot from Lionel Messi to go through his legs after just two minutes of Chelsea’s second leg last 16 tie.

Unfortunately for the 25-year-old ‘keeper, the Blues were unable to recover from conceding such an early goal against a top side like Barca, and were eliminated 4-1 on aggregate.

As we reported earlier, former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has blasted Courtois for his error.

However, the Chelsea star has hit back insisting that the Dutchman knows nothing about goalkeeping.

Although Courtois did go on to admit that because of his size, the potential to allow shots through his legs is his biggest weakness.

“When I hear so-called experts talking, I think they know nothing about goalkeeping — for example, Van Gaal should not talk about goalkeepers,” Courtois told Sporza.

“I have often played against Messi and it was not the first time he scored with a shot between my legs,” he said.

“For a goalkeeper of my height it is probably my weakest point. That is very annoying, but I have to face it. I have to acknowledge my mistake as a man.”
