Chelsea star Marcos Alonso has admitted that he is aiming to become one of the best left-backs in the World.
The Spain international has been a revelation since signing for Chelsea for £26 million from Serie A side Sampdoria in the summer of 2016, with the 27-year-old one of the star performers in the Blues side that won the Premier League title in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Not only is Alonso a solid defender, he also has a massive impact in attack with no defender having contributed more goals and assists in the English top flight since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
He is obviously highly-rated by new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who labelled Alonso as the best left-back in Europe after his sides latest Premier League fixture, a 2-0 win over Bournemouth.
“Since I was a kid it was my motivation to be a football player,” Alonso told the Chelsea’s official website.
“And today my motivation is to be one of the best doing what I do.
“When I came to Chelsea I said I wanted to be one of the best left-backs in the world.
“And I think I am up there at the moment.
“But if I want to be the best I have to keep working hard.”
