Chelsea maintained their excellent start to their Premier League campaign yesterday when they defeated Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues victory over Eddie Howe’s side means Chelsea have now won all four of their fixtures so far this season and sit joint top of the league with Liverpool.
One of the stand out performers for Chelsea again yesterday was 27-year-old left-back Marcos Alonso, who got forward brilliantly all game long and laid on an assist for Eden Hazard’s crucial second goal.
In fact, no defender in the Premier League has contributed more goals and assists than Spain international Alonso since he moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2016 for £24 million from Fiorentina.
During his post-match press conference Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri even went as far as suggesting Alonso is now the best left-back in Europe.
“Alonso, at the moment, this position at left-back is maybe the best in Europe,” Sarri said.
“[He has] Physical qualities at a top level, I think. He’s doing very well in the offensive phase.
“But I also think he can improve in the defensive phase.
“If he improves that, he could be the best left-back in the world.”
