Chelsea legend hails ‘absolute specimen’ Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale came off the bench to light up the Champions League final with a audacious bicycle kick that will surely go down as the greatest ever goal in a major final.

The Wales international was left out of the starting XI by his coach Zidane, but gave the perfect response to this disappointment by coming on on the hour mark and inspiring his side to a record breaking third successive UCL title with a match winning brace.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game Chelsea legend Frank Lampard hailed the brilliance of the former Spurs star when he said:

“Gareth Bale’s been pivotal in finals. He’s a great player because only the absolute best can score that goal.

“A fit Gareth Bale is an absolute specimen.”

Interestingly, when interviewed after the game, Bale admitted his frustration at not being a regular starter for Madrid this season and seemed to hint at being open to a return to the Premier League this summer, with former Liverpool captain Gerrard admitting that it sounded like a come and get me plea.

“It’s the first time I’ve heard him speak in that tone. It’s the first time I’ve hear him say ‘come and get me quick’.”

Bale is thought to be a target for Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs, while Liverpool have also been linked
