Chelsea keen on in-demand midfielder Romeo Lavia

Chelsea are considering a move for in-demand Southampton teenager Romeo Lavia, as the club look to sign a midfielder this summer.

Lavia is subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs who are keen to capitalise on Southampton’s relegation with the signing of the 19-year-old. Lavia impressed despite a difficult season for the Saints and is on the radar of both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Sky Sports are reporting that Chelsea are also interested in a deal for Lavia, who made his senior debut for Belgium in March. The west Londoners are focused on a deal for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, but Lavia is under consideration as a potential alternative.

The teenager was a consistent performer for Southampton despite managerial upheaval and a struggle for results, attracting admirers from higher up the division with his diligent defensive work and ability to evade the press at the base of the midfield.

Southampton value the midfielder at around £50m, a significant increase in value after signing Lavia in a £12m deal from Manchester City last summer.

City have a buy-back option but have shown no interest in activating that clause to date, though will be entitled to 20% of any fee due to a sell-on clause.
