Chelsea set to ‘formalise’ interest in Moises Caicedo

Chelsea are set to ‘formalise’ the club’s interest in signing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea made an approach to sign the 21-year-old during the January transfer window and have renewed that interest as Mauricio Pochettino looks to add a midfielder to his squad this summer.

The west Londoners are understood to have received encouragement from Caicedo’s representatives that the Ecuadorian would be keen on the move and personal terms are not expected to be an issue if a fee can be agreed with Brighton.

Sky Sports are reporting that Chelsea are considering multiple options with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia also of interest, but the Blues are expected to firm up their interest in Caicedo with a formal approach.

Brighton value the midfielder in excess of £80m after an outstanding season at the Amex Stadium, with Caicedo ranking second in the Premier League for both tackles and interceptions as the Seagulls secured a sixth-placed finish and Europa League qualification.

Chelsea have brought in more than £180m in sales already this summer to fund their transfer business, as the club reshape the squad after a disappointing campaign.

Arsenal and Manchester United had been linked with Caicedo, but each have focused on alternative targets.

The latter announced the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea on Wednesday, while Arsenal are finalising a £105m club-record deal for West Ham captain Declan Rice.
