Chelsea are reportedly one of the notable interested parties should Lionel Messi become available next summer, according to La Liga expert Guillem Balague.
The Argentina international is currently in the final year of his contract, with clubs able to agree a deal from January 1st if he fails to renew his contract in Catalonia.
The 33-year-old has become increasingly unsettled by the current situation at the Nou Camp regarding the general long-term plan of the club, unsuccessfully attempting to instigate a move away from the La Liga side over the summer.
With speculation over his future running rife, one club who have been continually linked with a move for the forward is Manchester City, with a reunion with Pep Guardiola and the potential offer of a 10-year project as part of City Football Group (CFG), something which could tempt Messi to England.
That being said, City are seemingly not the only Premier League side to have taken an interest, with Chelsea also said to be keen to make a move.
The Blues have already spent big in recent times as the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech arrived at Stamford Bridge to bolster Frank Lampard’s squad, yet the prospect of snapping arguably the world’s greatest ever player could be too good an opportunity to turn down – particularly with the player available on a ‘free’ transfer.
Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea hierarchy are seemingly one of a handful of clubs who could well make a move for Barcelona star Messi, should he decide to leave the Nou Camp next summer.
While City are still the favourites for his signature, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague reckons the Blues are definitely a serious option for Messi.
“Chelsea, definitely in the equation if Messi becomes available,” Balague said on his Youtube channel.
“All that is true.”
