Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Axel Disasi from AS Monaco with the club closing in on the €45m signing of the centre-back.
Mauricio Pochettino has targeted defensive reinforcements after Wesley Fofana was ruled out for an extended period with an ACL injury and the west Londoners have moved ahead of Premier League competition to near a deal for Disasi.
Chelsea have agreed a fee of €45m (£38.5m) for the 25-year-old, who has attracted interest from Manchester United, Newcastle and Spurs. Disasi made his senior debut for France during the World Cup in Qatar last winter and featured three times as Les Bleus reached the tournament’s final.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Disasi has agreed terms on a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge and a medical has been scheduled for early next week.
The defender will improve Chelsea’s options at centre-back, which have been depleted following the sale of Kalidou Koulibaly and Fofana’s long-term injury.
Disasi has made 129 appearances in all competitions for Monaco since joining the club from Reims in 2020 and is well known to Chelsea’s co-sporting director, Laurence Stewart, who was hired from the Ligue 1 side.
His arrival could allow Trevoh Chalobah to depart in search of regular minutes with West Ham and Inter Milan linked.
