Jamie Carragher has described Sergio Aguero as the Premier League’s greatest ever goalscorer after watching him net yet another hattrick in Man City’s sensational 6-0 win over Chelsea.

His latest treble – his second in eight days – sees him move level with the great Alan Shearer in terms of Premier League hat-tricks, with both players now being locked level on 11.

It also took his tally to 160 from 229 appearances in the Premier League, scoring at a rate 0.7 goals per game, significantly higher than all time leading scorer, Shearer, whose 260 goals were scored over 441 appearances, at a rate of 0.59 goals per game.

Having watched Aguero’s latest goalscoring heroics at the Etihad, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said that the Argentine was the greatest goalscorer the Premier League has ever seen.

“He’s just clever. He’s switched on, he’s alive,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I’ve played against him and at times he can be quiet in a game, but before you know it something just happens. In terms of a goalscorer, he’s the greatest we’ve seen in the Premier League.

“That’s the difference between him and the other greats, he’s a goalscorer rather than the greatest all-round player.”
