Manchester United representatives are believed to have held further talks with the agent of Sporting Club de Portugal star Bruno Fernandes.
The Portuguese international has been the subject of a pseudo-tug-of-war between Manchester United and Liverpool, but the Red Devils are keen to get the deal over the line.
United are in need of a new midfielder after letting Ander Herrera leave for PSG upon the expiry of his current contract, and it is believed that Fernandes is the man Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to replace the Spaniard.
Portugues media outlet O Jogo reported that United were set to meet with Fernandes’ agent on Wednesday night having already staged preliminary talks.
Media reports have suggested that the midfielder is expected to be sold for around £70m (€78m), although Transfermarkt values the player at around £49m (€55m).
Fernandes is coming off the back of a tremendous season for Sporting, having scored a frankly ridiculous 31 goals from midfield last season, and also won the inaugural Uefa Nations League with his national team.
