‘We deserved more’ – Brentford ‘devastated’ as Arsenal snatch late win

Brentford manager Thomas Frank says his players were left “devastated” by Kai Havertz’ late winner at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Bees fell agonisingly short of holding the visitors to a goalless draw, but Bukayo Saka was able to unpick a stubborn defence with a pitch perfect cross to his German colleague, who headed home at the back post in the 89th minute.

Brentford, have now lost their last two games in the Premier League, while their 14-game unbeaten streak in London games has come to an end.

“It’s tough,” Frank admitted to TNT Sports. “The players are devastated, I praised them for a good performance. We did so many good things again, it’s the story of these first 13 games. I think we have deserved more points than we have got, and the same again today.

“We were completely in the game, look at Arsenal with the players they have the budget they have, so it is incredible we played a completely even game with two chances each side, and unfortunately they scored theirs.

“We have a good squad but not as big as other teams, no complaints from here but it hurts a little bit with the injuries we have.

“With the players we had today, we could easily have had a point. We did a top job to keep two of the best wingers in the game quiet throughout the game, one top action from Saka, great movement from Havertz and unfortunately they score.”
