Bayern Munich travel to Madrid on Tuesday to face Atlético at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in the fourth round of Champions League league-phase action. The hosts arrive in strong domestic form, while Bayern are looking to end a run of European draws.

Bayern Munich have been remarkably difficult to beat, carrying a 19-game unbeaten sequence into the match. They lead the Bundesliga and come to Madrid after a hard-fought 2-2 Der Klassiker draw with Borussia Dortmund. Despite their domestic strength, Bayern have not been as convincing in the Champions League, drawing 3-3 with Viking FK and 2-2 against Arsenal in their last two European outings.

Bayern Munich team news

The German champions are dealing with a major injury problem after their intense clash with Dortmund. Assistant coach Aaron Danks is still overseeing the team because head coach Vincent Kompany is recovering from a virus.

There is some encouragement, though: Manuel Neuer and Michael Olise made the trip to Spain and joined the final training session, although Olise had a bandage on his knee.

Both players will be assessed closer to kick-off. Serge Gnabry and Ismael Saibari are definitely unavailable, with muscle and ankle injuries respectively, while Jamal Musiala and

Luis Díaz remain long-term absentees. Reserve goalkeeper Jonas Urbig is also uncertain, so Sven Ulreich would deputise if Neuer is not fit.

Bayern’s expected 4-2-3-1 line-up sees Ulreich in goal, protected by Josip Stanisic, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, and Konrad Laimer.

Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic should anchor the midfield, with Harry Kane leading the attack.
