Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are reportedly set to ‘pause’ their pursuit of Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi, the England U21 international having been heavily linked with a move to the Allianz Arena in recent seasons.
The 20-year-old has been the subject of a number bids from Bayern in the past, with the German side making their first offer back in January 2019 while the wideman was struggling for game time under then Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, while they also made another approach in that summer.
Although the player has since gone on to sign a lucrative new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge under current manager Frank Lampard, his future at the club has continued to look somewhat uncertain with a number of high profile attacking additions made by the Blues over the summer.
While his situation was not helped by an achilles injury picked up at the end of the 2018/19 season that led to a long lay-off, even when fit, the pacy winger has struggled for a regular starting berth under Lampard despite his obvious talent.
The Chelsea youth product – who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury – looks to be staying at the club for a little while longer, however, with Goal reporting that Bayern have put their interest in him on hold for the time being.
According to their report, the current Champions League holders still see Hudson-Odoi as a key ‘long-term target’ for the future, yet are currently well stocked in wide areas with the likes of Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman currently at the club.
Hansi Flick’s side also have Brazilian international Douglas Costa on-loan at the club from Serie A side Juventus, with Hudson-Odoi’s future potentially resting on whether or not that deal becomes a permanent one.
The report does suggest that the Blues are keen to move some first-team players on in January, although it would appear unlikely to see the young Englishman heading for the exit door.
