Bayern Munich have joined a host of Premier League sides in the race to sign highly-rated RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano this summer.
The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the finest young defenders in world football and has starred once again in the Bundesliga so far this season, with Arsenal and both Manchester clubs amongst the sides reported to be monitoring his progress ahead of a summer move.
According to Bild, however, Bayern have now joined England’s elite in the race to sign the centre-back, with the German publication reporting that the Bavarian’s have already held talks with the player regarding a switch to the Allianz Arena.
With the ongoing global pandemic set to have a negative impact on this summers transfer window, Bayern are said to be hoping to do a deal for less than Leipzig’s €60 million asking price.
Leipzig are under no financial pressure to sell one of the jewels of their emerging side, though Upamecano will have just a year remaining on his contract this summer and the club could look to cash-in rather than risk losing the Frenchman for free in 2021.
Upamecano has made 104 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig since signing from Red Bull Salzburg four years ago, and has formed part of the side which has reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time this season.
