Barcelona legend wishes Everton defender good luck

Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has wished Everton defender Yerry Mina ‘good luck’ in his career as a Premier League player.

Colombian Mina left Barcelona to join Everton in a £27m deal last summer, having failed to establish himself as a first choice at the Nou Camp.

The 24-year-old arrived in Spain from Brazilian side Palmeiras in January 2018, but made just five league appearances across a six month spell at the club before leaving for Goodison Park and the Premier League.

Former Barcelona captain Puyol, who won six league titles and three Champions Leagues during a 15 year career at the club, has defended Mina saying it ‘isn’t easy’ to succeed at the Spanish champions.

“Succeeding at Barcelona isn’t easy,” Puyol told Marca.

“It’s not easy to go there and adapt. You have to have time and you have players like [Gerard] Pique and [Samuel] Umtiti in front of you. I wish Mina good luck. Things like that happen and it’s not always easy.”
