Atletico Madrid host Bayern Munich at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Tuesday for the fourth round of league-stage fixtures in the UEFA Champions League.
Diego Simeone’s side are in excellent form at home, having gone nine games without defeat in all competitions. They are second in La Liga and arrive on the back of seven straight league wins, the latest being a victory over Levante. Their defence has also been reliable, recording four shutouts across their previous five matches. In Europe, though, results have been less consistent: Atlético beat Manchester United, drew with Stuttgart, and lost to Liverpool.
Atletico Madrid team news
Simeone has a timely boost in the middle of the park, even though several central positions remain stretched. Club captain Koke is back in full training after a hamstring problem and should be involved.
Cristián Romero, who was among the substitutes for the Levante game, is also expected to return to the starting eleven. Atlético will, however, be missing Morten Hjulmand through suspension after he received a straight red card against Stuttgart on matchday three.
Johnny Cardoso is unlikely to be included because of an ongoing thigh issue.
In a probable 4-2-3-1 setup, Jan Oblak should keep goal behind Marcos Llorente, Romero, Dávid Hancko, and Alejandro Grimaldo.
Pablo Barrios and Koke are likely to sit in midfield, with Giuliano Simeone, Álex Baena, Lee Kang-in, and Julian Álvarez providing the attacking threat.
Atletico Madrid predicted lineup
Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak; Llorente, Romero, Hancko, Grimaldo; Barrios, Koke; G. Simeone, Lee, Baena; Álvarez.
