Aston Villa host Brentford at Villa Park on Saturday looking to end a run of two successive home league defeats. Unai Emery’s side are 16th, with Brentford fourth.

Villa have lost their last two Premier League meetings with Brentford without scoring, including a 1-0 home defeat in February.

Aston Villa team news

Amadou Onana (knee), Ian Maatsen (ankle) and Modo Cisse are out, and Saturday’s game will come too soon for Leon Goretzka (knee), who is targeting a return next week. Pau Torres (hamstring), Matty Cash (dead leg), Alysson (muscle), Marco Bizot (back) and 17-year-old Brian Madjo (ankle) will be assessed before kick-off.

Johan Manzambi, who scored and assisted on his full league debut in the 3-2 win at Tottenham, is expected to keep his place on the left of midfield, with captain John McGinn on the right. Emiliano Buendia, who scored a long-range goal at Tottenham, should keep the number 10 role behind Nicolas Jackson, who also scored there.

Boubacar Kamara and Joao Gomes are the likeliest centre-midfield pairing, keeping Ross Barkley and Lamare Bogarde on the bench. A back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Tyrone Mings and Matteo Ruggeri could remain intact in front of Zion Suzuki, with Cash, if fit, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis pushing for a recall.
