Aston Villa want to sign Youri Tielemans on a free transfer this summer after the midfielder’s confirmed departure from Leicester.
Tielemans’ contract at Leicester is set to expire next month and the 26-year-old will leave the relegated Foxes as a free agent.
Villa are keen to capitalise on his availability and secure a free transfer deal for the midfielder, who has been linked with several Premier League rivals.
Tielemans signed for Leicester in a £40m deal from Monaco in 2019, after a successful loan spell at the club.
He made 195 appearances for all competitions for the Foxes and impressed as Leicester secured back-to-back top five finishes in the Premier League in 2019 and 2020.
Tielemans scored the winning goal as Leicester beat Chelsea at Wembley to win the FA Cup for the first time in 2021. He was named as Leicester’s Player of the Season in 2020/21 and has scored five goals in 58 appearances for Belgium at international level.
According to The Athletic, Villa will look to beat competition to his signature with an early approach and ‘would like a move to be completed quickly’ after missing out on midfield additions in January.
