Arsenal’s move for Caicedo ‘completely off’

Arsenal’s interest in signing Moises Caicedo before this evening’s transfer deadline has been described as ‘completely off’.

Chelsea and Arsenal have both been linked with the Brighton midfielder, and have both seen offers knocked back for the Ecuadorean in recent days as each look to strengthen in midfield.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since joining the Seagulls 18 months ago, with the majority of the Premier League’s so-called ‘Big Six’ having been linked.

Following Arsenal’s recent £60 million bid, Caicedo went on the record to admit his desire to be allowed to leave, though Brighton have remained resolute in their desire to keep the midfielder.

Rumours have suggested that Arsenal were contemplating upping their offer, though, with just hours remaining of the January transfer window, a potential deal has now been described as ‘completely off’.

Arsenal have since reached an agreement with Chelsea for the signature of Jorginho, though Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has said the move for the Italy international was never an alternative to the Brighton star.

“I’m told, with this deal, it wasn’t an alternative for Moises Caicedo, because Arsenal throughout the day, throughout the month, have been ready and able to do a deal if Brighton change their stance,” he said on Sky Sports News.

Asked what Brighton’s stance was, he said: “Unchanged! We are hearing that that one is completely off.

“Moises Caicedo, as Brighton said, is not going to be sold by Brighton in this transfer window, and he is expected back at the training ground tomorrow.”
