Arsenal have reportedly had a bid worth €60 million rejected by RB Leipzig for defender Dayot Upamecano.
The Gunners are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after yet another disappointing season last time out, finishing fifth in the Premier League and missing out on Champions League football for a third successive season.
They have already confirmed the £27m arrival of centre-back William Saliba, although the 18-year-old won’t arrive at the Emirates for 12 months, with St. Etienne having demanded that he remains with them on a season-long loan until the summer of 2020.
Laurent Koscielny has effectively gone on strike to force a move away from Arsenal, while plenty of Gunners fans would quite gladly see the back of Shkodran Mustafi who has often struggled during his time at the Emirates.
According to German publication Bild, the North London club have lodged a €60 million (£55m) for RB Leipzig’s imposing centre-back Dayot Upamecano, although that has been immediately rejected.
The 20-year-old still has a contract until 2021, containing a €100 million (£92m) release clause, with the German side under no pressure to sell.
Arsenal have already broken their transfer record to land Nicolas Pepe from Lille last week, and have also completed deals for Dani Ceballos and Gabriel Martinelli.
They also remain interested in signing Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, although have so far been unable to structure a deal to the liking of the Scottish champions.
