Arsenal are expected to step up their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes next week, with fresh club-to-club discussions anticipated as Mikel Arteta’s side look to strengthen their midfield before the new season.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal are preparing a new approach after establishing initial contact with Newcastle.
The Premier League champions are understood to have already agreed personal terms in principle with the Brazil international, although a deal remains dependent on Newcastle’s willingness to negotiate.

An opening proposal worth around £70 million has not been enough to persuade Newcastle to consider a sale, and Arsenal are expected to return with an improved offer.
However, there is still uncertainty over the valuation required to change the Magpies’ stance, with the club yet to indicate the figure at which they would be prepared to part with one of their most influential players.
Arsenal prepare improved Bruno Guimaraes bid after initial talks
Guimaraes has established himself as a cornerstone of Eddie Howe’s side since joining from Lyon in January 2022.
The 28-year-old played a key role as Newcastle secured Champions League qualification again last season, combining defensive discipline with creativity and leadership in midfield.
Despite Arsenal’s long-standing admiration for the Brazilian, Newcastle remain in a strong negotiating position.
Guimaraes is under a long-term contract at St James’ Park, leaving the club under no immediate financial pressure to sanction a transfer during the current window.
Arteta has already strengthened several areas of his squad this summer, but Arsenal continue to explore options to add another elite midfielder capable of competing alongside Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.
Guimaraes has long been viewed internally as a player capable of elevating the club’s midfield further, thanks to his Premier League experience and ability to dictate the tempo of matches.
