Arsenal have emerged as favourites to secure the signing of Ajax star Hakim Ziyech.
The Moroccan international has enjoyed a superb season for the Dutch champions, starring in Erik ten Hag’s side’s surprise run to the Champions League semi-finals.
The 26-year-old’s performances have alerted the attention of several of Europe’s leading clubs, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham all linked with a move for the playmaker.
According to talkSPORT, Arsenal are in ‘pole position’ to secure the services of a player who is reported to have a release clause of just £25m.
Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has announced Ziyech will leave the club this summer, with the club having promised the player he could depart for a top club.
“He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League,” Overmars said.
“Many big clubs are buzzing around him. We promised Hakim [that we would] agree to a good transfer.”
Ziyech has scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists for Ajax this season, and his signing would represent a major coup for Unai Emery’s side.
The attacker has previously described a move to the Emirates as his ‘ultimate dream’, whilst revealing his admiration for current Gunners star Mesut Ozil.
“I have two clubs (I would like to play for),” Ziyech told AjaxTV.
“They are Arsenal and Barcelona. That is my ultimate dream.”
Asked he has a footballing idol, he said: “Yes, I actually do have one. [Mesut] Ozil.”
It was a shortened pod this week, but still a solid listen. ??
